Dynamic Shotokan Karate-Do International (DSKI) was established in 2007 by Shuseki Shihan Dr Ali Darwish (Hachi dan), direct student of Sensei Hiroshi Nakayama and Sensei Hideki Okamoto of the Japan Karate Association, and former member of Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation (SKIF) acting as Technical Adviser and General Secretary for SKI Lebanon and Middle East, and World Shotokan Karate-Do Federation (WSKF), and former senior technical adviser of World Shotokan Karate-Do Australia (WSKA).

Who we are
We are Dynamic Shotokan Karate-Do International (DSKI). Our style is Yakushin Shotokan Karate. Yakushin Shotokan is a modern interpretation of the traditional Shotokan style of Karate based on the principles of contrast and energy transfer of Shotokan Karate and a synthesis of traditional and innovative approaches into a scientifically based dynamic system.
It has its strong roots and foundation in the training of the Japan Karate Association of the seventies and eighties and it is informed by the evolutionary approaches of modern Shotokan Karate, placing emphasis on free style practice (randori) and effective fighting techniques and strategies.

What we do
We promote Yakushin Shotokan Karate worldwide. We develop, train and promote Yakushin Shotokan Karate worldwide.

What we stand for
We promote a healthy, enjoyable and safe training environment without bias, discrimination or exclusion. We stand for excellence in the delivery of our training and in the way we conduct ourselves. We are committed to making a real difference in providing Shotokan Karate training wherever we have presence in the world.

What we value
We value: health, safety, respect, excellence, integrity and innovation.

Our  Mission and Vision
Our mission is to disseminate the concepts of scientific Shotokan Karate-Do training within the tradition of Shotokan Karate in Australia and globally.

Our vision is to further develop scientific Shotokan Karate and to further explore the physical laws that govern the execution of effective Karate techniques and to be the alternative and not the substitute in the world of Shotokan Karate.

DSKI Philosophy

The philosophy of Dynamic Shotokan Karate-Do International (Yakushin Shotokan) is based on the interdependent principles of contrast (taisho) and energy transfer (naihatsu) of Shotokan Karate-Do. "No efficient energy transfer can take place without effective contrast in Karate techniques" (Darwish, 1994). Consequently, the study and application of these principles of Yakushin Shotokan are the foundation of DSKI training philosophy, which is also built on the concepts of hente, where the same hand dynamically changes from defence to offence and vice-versa, and renketsusei, which refers to connectivity of techniques.

Our Values

At Dynamic Shotokan Karate-Do International (DSKI), Kokusai Yakushin Shotokan Karate-Do, we have six values that we strive to uphold at all times. These values express our common understanding of what DSKI is about and what it aims to be as an international Karate organization.

Karate is a martial art and a contact sport. We therefore follow and uphold the highest safety standards for our training programs. Health and longevity are two important aspects of our training philosophy. Rash and impetuous behaviour in the dojo and outside the dojo is not tolerated and should result in disciplinary action.

We respect all Karate and martial art styles and schools and we strive to learn from other styles. We comply with laws and regulations and behave with mutual respect and trust. Above all, we respect our Japanese Shotokan Karate-Do tradition. We refrain from wearing anything but white Karate-gi (uniforms) and refrain from histrionic acts and flashy and showy moves (Kebakebashii or hade). Only the official badge of our organization may be worn on the white karate uniform and on the top left part of jacket front.
We uphold the law and train both body and mind.

We are committed to excellence and we strive to achieve excellence in our technical and non-technical standards. We are a learning Karate organization that is continually developing through practical experience, research and friendships and cooperation with fellow karate practitioners.

We jealously guard our reputation and integrity as a Karate organization and as individual Karate practitioners affiliated to DSKI. We are guided by a professional code of ethics. We refrain from conduct that may bring the art of Karate-Do and our organization into disrepute and at all times strive to be consistent and true to our values, beliefs and principles. We endeavour to uphold the principles of ?? SHISEI (sincerity) and??KOKKI (self-control).

We are an innovative, free-thinking organization. We always challenge ourselves to improve our training strategies, approaches and methods.
